Peer-Review

This peer review policy defines the process and requirements for reviewing original research articles submitted for the journal "Urban Folklore & Anthropology". This policy is aimed at ensuring high standards of scientific paper, objectivity, fairness and anonymity in the peer review process.

Peer review is mandatory for materials in the "Current Research" section, where the original research articles are published.

Peer review type. All peer-reviewed materials undergo double-blind peer review, during which both reviewers and authors remain anonymous to each other. This helps to minimize bias and ensure an objective assessment.

The review period usually takes not less than 2 and not more than 6 weeks.

At the request of the reviewer, the review period can be extended.

Reviewers selection principles. The editorial board invites at least two independent experts for submitting the article review – recognized Russian or foreign specialists in the field of urban folklore and anthropology and related fields, who have works on the topic of the manuscript under review, and who know the language in which the manuscript is presented (Russian or English). When selecting a reviewer, the editor-in-chief is guided by the reviewer's scientific authority, his or her experience in reviewing, and the absence of a conflict of interest between the author and the reviewer.

Confidentiality. The review process is confidential (see Editorial Responsibilities, Reviewer Responsibilities). After the publication of the review is completed, it is sent to the RSCI (the database only for the administrative use, the reviews and the information about the reviewer are available only to RSCI employees, unless otherwise specified by the reviewer, see the file in the appendix Consent Form for Posting a Review in the Russian Science Citation Index).

Review terms and procedure.

  1. All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial check by the journal's editorial board for compliance with the topic of the article, formatting requirements, and scientific level. The editorial review period for a manuscript takes not more than 1 month. The editors notify the author by e-mail of the decision to accept or reject the manuscript for review. In some cases, the editors may suggest the author to re-submit the manuscript for review after making the appropriate updates.
  2. If the manuscript meets the quality criteria for scientific articles of the journal, it is sent to two independent reviewers, specialists in the field of the research.
  3. Reviewing is free of charge.
  4. Reviewers evaluate the quality of the manuscript according to the following criteria (Expert Opinion Form): originality, significance, reliability and completeness of data, methodology, validity of conclusions, quality of the literature review, style and clarity of presentation. The review is provided in Russian or English (depending on the language of the manuscript or by special agreement with the author and reviewer) and contains comments arguing the reviewer's position regarding the quality of the manuscript, its strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations for revision of the manuscript.

Reviewers provide their recommendations in one of the following forms:

  • The article can certainly be accepted for publication
  • The article requires minor revision (without re-reviewing)
  • The article requires significant revision (with re-reviewing)
  • The article should certainly be rejected.

Reviewing is carried out in accordance with the Editorial Ethics of the publication.

  1. The final decision on publication or rejection of the article is made by the editor-in-chief, guided by the opinion of the reviewers and members of the editorial board. The manuscript may be rejected for the following reasons: (1) plagiarism identified by the editors or a reviewer (without the possibility of revising the manuscript); (2) inconsistency of the manuscript with the thematic of the journal; (3) non-compliance of the manuscript with the formatting rules; (4) the author's refusal to revise the manuscript in accordance with the recommendations of the editors and / or reviewers; (5) low quality of the manuscript, confirmed by independent reviewers.
  2. The review period takes not more than 6 weeks; if necessary, the reviewer may request an extension of this period, in such a case the editors notify the author by e-mail. After receiving the review and the editors' final decision on the acceptance or rejection of the article, the author receives an official response about the possibility of publication and the reasons for such a decision, and a request for revision of the manuscript, by e-mail.
  3. Authors have the right to appeal the editorial decision if the manuscript is rejected. The appeal must be submitted within 5 working days from the date of notification of refusal and contain specific information confirming the author's position. Appeals will be considered by the editors and, if necessary, the manuscript may be sent for re-review.
  4. If the article should be edited, the author is given a period of not more than 1 month to make the appropriate corrections. The author's refusal to fully or partially make the corrections recommended by the editors and/or reviewers must be constructively justified in the cover letter. A re-review, if required, is carried out within a period of not more than 2 weeks.
  5. After the article is accepted for publication, it undergoes literary and scientific editing, after which the author receives the edited manuscript for approval. The author must confirm by e-mail that the article can be published in its final edited form. If the manuscript has several authors, the corresponding author gives consent for publication in the agreed form. At this stage, the author may make minimal corrections to the manuscript that do not change the essence of the article and the number of authors.
  6. After proofreading, the edited manuscript is sent to the author for approval. The corresponding author confirms consent for publication by e-mail within not more than 5 working days. At this stage, minor changes to the text are possible (correcting typos, improving image quality, etc.).

This peer review policy may be revised and amended if necessary. All changes will be published on the journal's website and will come into effect upon publication.
